Hinterland Adventures & Gear is located in Weymouth Mills just two miles from the Evangeline Trail as it passes through the village of Weymouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. Hinterland began operations in 1995 as an outdoor adventure company specializing in wilderness Canada canoeing and sea kayaking tours of southwestern Nova Scotia. Our Canada canoeing tours of the legendary Tobeatic Wilderness Game Sanctuary, including the Heritage Shelburne River System are indeed - Adventures … beyond the ordinary!
Hinterland Adventures & Gear also conducts sea kayaking tours along the rugged coastline of southwestern Nova Scotia. The choice of locations always provides something of interest and you can choose a duration to suit your experience. You can, for example, participate in a half day introductory kayak tour that allows you a sheltered paddle on the lower Sissiboo River then out into St. Mary's Bay. The full day tour offers you the same experience with more paddling time in the salt waters of the Bay. You can take one of four day tours of beautiful St. Mary's Bay, a small bay running parallel to the famous Bay of Fundy. Remember, the coastal waters in this area are tidal so occasionally the tour route is reversed to work with the tide.
Hinterland Adventures and Gear is a team of knowledgeable and dedicated guides, instructors, assistants and support staff. Our tour leaders have professional leadership training in Outdoor Leadership Development - including provincial certification in Wilderness Navigation, Survival, Emergency Procedures and Remote Wilderness First Aid for Outdoor Leaders. They also have CPR and Saint John Ambulance First Aid Training.
Hinterland's guides have a solid, trustworthy wilderness paddling background, plenty of personality and considerable talent in organizing base camp activities. Our senior guide (Nr.696), Mr. Jon "Tipi" Swim, is a wilderness wood artist from Barrington, Nova Scotia and a popular competitor in the International Woodsmen's Competition held annually in Greenfield, Nova Scotia. Mr. Swim generously shares his wit and wilderness wisdom with everyone he meets...making him a valuable asset to Hinterland and one of the best wilderness guides in the province.
Quality gear is the other important component of the Hinterland outdoor experience. From our newly renovated retail/rental outlet in Weymouth, Hinterland offers a wide variety of outdoor adventure gear and accessories. Hinterland is an authorized dealer for Old Town Canoes and Kayaks, Helly Hansen, Harvest Foodworks and many other quality manufacturers.
